Exploring the landscapes around Llanmadoc is one of the best ways to experience the quiet beauty of North Gower. From wide sandy beaches and salt marshes to ancient woodland and panoramic hilltops, the area offers walks for every kind of visitor. Whether you’re looking for a short family stroll, a peaceful wildlife walk, or a longer coastal hike, there are routes here to enjoy in every season.
The villages of Cwm Ivy, Cheriton and Llangennith are all connected by a network of footpaths, lanes and coastline trails that showcase some of the most unspoilt scenery in Wales. Walkers can discover sweeping estuary views, hidden churches, grazing marshland, windswept dunes and dramatic coastal cliffs — often with very little traffic or noise along the way.
For nature lovers, North Gower is especially rewarding. The area is home to a wide variety of birdlife, wildflowers and coastal habitats. Depending on the time of year, you may spot herons along the estuary, wild ponies grazing the marshes, or skylarks singing over the open common land. Autumn and winter bring dramatic skies and peaceful beaches, while spring and summer fill the paths with colour and wildlife.
Many walks begin directly from the village, meaning you can leave the car behind and explore at your own pace. Traditional pubs, cafés and picnic spots along the routes also make it easy to turn a simple walk into a full day out.
We are currently updating the information on this page, for local walking routes, and will be adding detailed information and route maps very soon. When this work has been completed, the symbol will appear alongside the heading on the menu page to confirm completion, and we hope that this new information will be of great benefit to the many walkers who visit the village.
These walks are intended as general guides only. Please follow local signage, assess conditions carefully and walk at your own risk.
